What Is Asthma? (grades 5-12) This fun and interactive workshop is perfect for health and science classeses. Students will learn: the definition of asthma, the function of the lungs by demonstration of a pig lung disection, how to identify common triggers and warning signs of an asthma attack.
Asthma, Be In Charge (K-College) For asthmatic students only. This workshop will teach: how to manage asthma at school, the correct way to take metered-dose inhalers and how to use peak flow meters, and how to respond to an asthma emergency. For younger children, "Radical Randy" the MediKin (doll) with asthma can be requested as a teaching aid to accelerate learning among younger children with asthma.
School Staff Workshop (nurses, teachers, coaches, bus drivers, office staff) This workshop equips all school staff with information on: early warning signs of an asthma attack, how to reduce asthma triggers in the school environment, how to help students manage their asthma at school, appropriate action to take during an attack
Parents As Asthma Managers - This workshop is excellent for parent/teacher group meetings where both will learn: the ABC's of asthma management; proper communication between families, medical staff and school staff; and how to ask medical professionals the right questions about asthma management.
Open Airways (For Asthmatic Children Ages 8-11) Teaches students in small groups how to develop self-management skills.
Child Care Staff Education (childcare centers/preschool providers) A program to educates caregivers and staff to: understand what asthma is and how to recognize early warning signs of an asthma attack, identify and reduce environmental triggers, know life-saving actions or emergency procedures, create an asthma management plan between staff, physician and families.
Asthma Lunch & Learn for Businesses - Through employee education and asthma management, the effects of asthma can be minimized. Respiratory professionals will teach: how to recognize early signs of an asthma attack, importance of medication regimens, how to avoid allergens and other factors that aggravate asthma.
